This is really interesting. I think with a rapidly increasing world population, and as third world countries develop whose populations begin to demand more of their economy/lifestyle, “radical social” change is necessary. I think that there is the potential to retain relatively similar- if not healthier and more efficient- lifestyles while taking on the challenges that global warming and large populations pose. Sustainable/socially conscious and responsible businesses are the future.
I am trying to find a particular article by the founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard. I cannot find the one I am thinking of, but these two capture his business model. Chouinard has a really impressive business model, and it makes me proud to buy Patagonia’s products. He has also proved that a business can operate at maximum sustainability while earning a profit.
